Cover letters: should you care about them, yes or no?

My short answer: No.

‍

Now, let me explain. Crafting a perfect, personalized letter for each job application can be daunting, time-consuming, and stressful, especially when we know that many of them might not even get read.

As a hiring manager, I don’t require candidates to submit cover letters - but there is a way to send an exceptional one.

‍

Here's a foolproof format to get started, and I’ll leave the template below:

1. Begin with the date, followed by the hiring manager's details, and a brief introduction.
2. In the first paragraph, grab attention with a powerful hook, something that shares your reasons why you’re a perfect candidate for the role.
3. In the second and third paragraph, list your relevant skills and achievements in bullet points, making it easier for the reader to quickly understand your value proposition.
4. Finally, conclude by leaving a thank you and your name
