Do you find yourself daydreaming about a job that makes you excited to wake up in the morning? ☀️

Or, are you feeling stuck in your career? 🫤

If so, you’re not alone!

Many people struggle with finding the right career path and that’s where career consulting comes in.

Meet Emma Pinkerton one of our full-time career consultants.

She was actually one of our followers before she started working with us and she used to use our free resume templates to help her land jobs!

‍

Get to know Emma!

‍

Emma was lucky enough to begin her career at Google as a Recruitment Coordinator.

After almost two years there, she left to join a startup called CloudKitchens where she became a leader in Recruiting Operations. Unfortunately, like many others in the recruiting space, she was let go in November 2022.

But it seemed to be perfect timing since Wonsulting, the company that she had been following for quite a few years, was now hiring for their team.

As a firm believer in rejection being redirection she jumped at the opportunity. Emma has really enjoyed her time here at Wonsulting so far.

She has learned so much about the job search process and finds it extremely rewarding to hear about her clients getting interviews and offers from companies they are excited about.

What is a career consultation?

‍

A career consultation is one of the services that we offer here at Wonsulting that can help you:

‍

💡‍ Identify your dream job

✏️ Develop your career strategy

🙋‍♀️ Consult with an industry pro

Emma is just one of our many career consultants who work with clients through the entire job search process from identifying their target role to preparing for interviews.

At Wonsulting, our career consultations start off with a questionnaire to help us get to know you. Your career development depends on many factors such as your interests, values, personality, and background.

We help you identify these factors to tailor your career search and strategies. Throughout your consultation, you and your career consultant discuss and build a plan to help you achieve your career goals.

‍

What is included in a career consultation?

After filling out the questionnaire you’ll be contacted by one of our career consultants, such as Emma, within a week of your purchase. You’ll schedule an initial consultation where you can expect:

💬 A deeper conversation of your interests based on your questionnaire

💼 A discussion of job search strategies

🤔 Reflecting on your career goals

After your first conversation together, your consultant will give you some homework to work on. This can include finding a target number of job applications that you want to apply to, adding more details to your resume, and meeting a target number of people to network with.

The second meeting with your consultant will be a week later, or if you’re really eager, a few days later. In this meeting, you’ll go over the job applications that you’ve found, talk about the improvements that you’ve made to your resume and networking strategies, and discuss any more questions that you have.

‍

‍

Emma’s average day at Wonsulting includes meeting with clients to discuss their career goals, reviewing their resumes and LinkedIn, conducting mock interviews, and sharing some great recruiters and hiring managers to follow LinkedIn.

Emma meets with about 20 clients weekly over Google Meet and her time with a client can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. She also holds office hours where she consults clients on their specific upcoming interviews, whether or not they should apply to a specific job, and offer advice with negotiations.

“One thing I find most people struggle with is determining what should go on their resumes. Many of my clients leave out important projects, responsibilities, or coursework they have completed.

I think a lot of people think their resumes should just be a general description of their day-to-day tasks. A resume should really be a highlight of the impact they have had at a company.

This is why we really encourage our clients to have 80% of their bullets include data or metrics. Companies not only want to see that you can complete a job but they want to know to what scale and to what result.”

‍

I recently worked with Wonsulting and had a fantastic experience with Emma, who was incredibly helpful in all aspects of my interview preparation and resume/LinkedIn review. The interview preparation was particularly effective and gave me a lot of confidence going into my interviews. Review from Anu

How to prepare for a career consultation?

‍

Before your consultation, you should prepare some topics and ideas that you want to discuss with your career consultant. This will help you make the most of your time together.

‍

Write down a list of your strengths and weaknesses as well as your interests and which industries or jobs you’re interested in. You’ll also want to make a note of any questions to ask your career consultant.

‍

Here’s a list to help get you started:

‍

  1. Based on my skills and interests, what career options do you think would be a good fit for me?
  2. What are the job prospects and earning potential for the careers that we have discussed?
  3. What education and experience do I need to be competitive in these career fields?
  4. Can you review my resume and offer suggestions on how I can improve it?
  5. What job search strategies and resources do you recommend?
  6. How can I improve my networking and interviewing skills?
  7. Can you recommend any professional organizations or networking groups that might be beneficial to me?
  8. What do you think are my strongest attributes, and how can I highlight them in my job search?
  9. Are there any common pitfalls or mistakes that I should avoid during my job search?
  10. What advice do you have for me as I embark on this new career path?

‍

The better that you can prepare for your consultation, the better your consultant will understand your needs and goals which will lead to a more precise and accurate job strategy.

‍

Wonsulting helped me with my resume. It became more appealing to recruiters by adding great bullet points showing the impact I made during my career. I also felt more confident when interviewing and was able to use the interview advice provided to deliver a strong interview. Overall, I had interviews for multiple roles and stood out as a strong applicant eventually securing an offer with PwC 3 days after my interview thanks to Wonsulting. TrustPilot Review from Khush

What are the benefits of a career consultation?

‍

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, career consultation can be beneficial at any stage in your career.

‍

Since the average person spends a third of their lifetime working, it’s important to enjoy your work.

‍

One of the biggest benefits of a career consultation is gaining a better understanding of your strengths and weaknesses through assessments and discussions to identify areas where you excel and areas where you may need to improve. This information can help you make informed decisions about which careers to pursue and what steps to take to achieve your goals.

‍

Additionally, a career consultation can help you identify career options that better align with your goals and interests. You may even discover an industry or job that you didn’t know existed or hadn’t considered before. 🤓

‍

A career consultation can also help you develop a plan to achieve your career goals. The consultant will work with you to create a roadmap that outlines the steps you need to take to achieve your desired outcomes.

‍

And, one final benefit is improving your job search and interviewing skills. The consultant can offer tips on networking, interviewing, and job search strategies that can help you stand out from other candidates and land your dream job. 😎

‍

‍

If you’re still on the fence about career consultation services, you might be thinking, “Do I really need someone to tell me what to do with my career?”

‍

Well, if you’re like most of us, the answer is probably yes.

‍

Career consultations can be a game-changer in paving the way to your dream job. Think of it as having your own personal GPS for your professional life, guiding you down the best possible road to achieving your goals. 🚗

‍

And, let's face it, the job market is competitive. Any extra edge you can get is worth a million bucks. So, don't let your career drive around aimlessly like a lost tourist. Get yourself a career consultation and let us help you navigate the twists and turns of the professional world with ease!
